National Film Award winner Kusum Sikder will return to the screen after eight years of silence in the film world – a comeback that fans can expect from the actress.

Kusum Sikder, who starred in the critically acclaimed Sankhchil (2016) directed by renowned Indian filmmaker Gautam Ghosh, now returns to cinema as a producer. After her praised role in Sankhchil, she is taking on the new challenge of producing her own film after a long hiatus.

Kusum Sikder is all set to make a come back with the film, ‘Sharater Jaba’ which is set to be released on the 11th of October. This is definitely not a run of the mill project; It’s very much personal to her. This time, Kusum not just directed the film but also created its story, which she has previously published in her book, Ajagatik Chhaya, which she launched at the Book Fair in 2021.

From a star to a filmmaker: Kusum Sikder’s bold resurgence as a director

Kusum hasn’t been in the limelight for quite some time – Kusum says “In the last eight years, several movie offers came to me. But I don’t know why I couldn’t go for it. I didn’t belong. Maybe it’s my limitation but I just couldn’t take every offer.

Still, Kusum’s love for ‘Sharat Jaba’ was irresistible.
“The plot is mine; Adaptation is mine. Every shot was fixed in my mind – each and every bit. At first, the thought of managing such a large project did not hold my interest. A few directors and I even talked about it. However, very quickly, I realized that the directors did not understand the core of my narrative. So I directed it myself.

The film also stars Jayant Chatterjee, Jitu Ahsan, Yash Rohan, Nidra De Neha, Naresh Bhuiyan, and Shahidul Alam Sacchu, all of whom promise an interesting viewing experience. ‘Sharat Jaba’ is all set for OTT release after its theatrical run on the I Screen platform.

In this new phase of her career, Kusum Sikder is not acting in a mere narrative. He is writing it, creating it, molding it, with a fearlessness that only years of thought and artistic work allow.
