Dhallywood film industry Faces Unprecedented Crisis

Dhallywood in Crisis Amid Political Unrest
The ongoing student movement demanding reform of the government job quota system has had a huge impact on Dhallywood film industry. Since the start of the movement, film releases have been put on hold, and production of new films has stalled.
Delayed release and postponed shooting
Several highly anticipated films, including ‘Haimanti’s Itikatha’, ‘Nandini‘, ‘Omanush Holo Manoo’, and Chanchal Chowdhury’s ‘Padtik’ have postponed their release dates indefinitely. The Bollywood-Dhallywood joint production ‘Padtik,’ directed by Srijit Mukherjee, has postponed its release, originally scheduled for August 16, due to the current situation in Bangladesh.
Actress Poppy and Shakib Khan’s Sonal Chauhan have pushed back the release of their films ‘Direct Action‘ and ‘Dard.’ Producers are hesitant to set new release dates due to unfavorable environment for moviegoers.
There is uncertainty about future production
The uncertainty also extends to the shooting of the upcoming film. Shakib Khan’s ‘Sher’ and Shariful Raj-Idhika Pal’s ‘Saheb’ have had their shooting plans put on hold indefinitely. Other projects like ‘Masudrana’ and ‘Dardiya’ also face an uncertain future.
Directors and producers alike are taking a wait-and-see approach, with no clear timeline for when new film production will resume. General Secretary of the Directors Association Shaheen Sumon stated that he is unaware of any new movie being shot at FDC so far. Someone else can do it from outside. This is how the next few months will pass.
Economic factors crisis in Dhallywood
The economic situation in Bangladesh is also a significant factor in the current plight of the film industry. Director Saikat Nasir asserted, “First is human survival, treatment, education, then anything else. Hopefully, everything will be fine in the next few months.”
Director Saif Chandan echoed this sentiment saying, now is not the time to shoot movies, now is the time to build the country. Plan those on hold indefinitely.
While the nation is reeling after the quota reform movement, the film industry faces an uncertain future. Producers and directors are on alert. Waiting for the situation to stabilize before committing to any new project.
